Two individuals have lost their lives following a collision between a tourist coach carrying both local and foreign passengers and a truck near a seaside resort in Egypt. The incident occurred on the Ras Gharib-Hurghada road close to Hurghada by the Red Sea, resulting in injuries to 36 other individuals, with 24 of them believed to be foreigners. The identities of the deceased and the nationalities of those involved have not been revealed by authorities yet.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene in the early hours, transporting the injured to hospitals in and around Hurghada, a popular tourist destination known for its expansive sandy coastline adorned with luxury accommodations.
Reports indicate that a coach operated by a Red Sea tourism company, heading north from Hurghada, collided with a heavy truck during the early morning hours, resulting in the deaths of the coach driver and another passenger. Foreign nationals are among those seriously injured, as confirmed by authorities.
Hurghada, located approximately 290 miles south of Cairo, is a common starting point for trips to the Pyramids of Giza, a journey that typically takes around three hours by coach. The destination of the ill-fated coach on the day of the incident remains unknown.
In a separate recent incident, two individuals were killed and around 30 others sustained serious injuries following a collision between two passenger trains in Egypt’s Nile Delta. The tragic event took place in Zagazig, the capital of Sharqiya province, as confirmed by the country’s railway authority. Egypt’s Health Ministry reported that the injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Egypt has witnessed frequent train derailments and accidents due to an aging railway infrastructure and administrative issues. Efforts have been initiated by the government in recent times to enhance the country’s railway network and safety standards.
