Kate McCann was emotionally distressed when a woman, accused of stalking her family, showed up at their residence, leading Kate to tears and a threat to involve the authorities. Julia Wandelt, hailing from Lubin, Poland, recounted in Leicester Crown Court that she visited Mrs. McCann at her Leicester home last December, hoping to communicate with her, believing she could be the missing daughter, Madeleine.
Upon encountering the 24-year-old Wandelt and Karen Spragg, 61, from Cardiff, Mrs. McCann became visibly upset immediately. Wandelt mentioned that Mrs. McCann became tearful and eventually threatened to call the police, prompting Wandelt to leave and later send a letter signed as “Madeleine.”
During the court proceedings, Wandelt described the encounter, highlighting Mrs. McCann’s emotional response and her own attempts to communicate with her. Despite Mrs. McCann’s refusal to engage, Wandelt persisted, causing distress to Mrs. McCann and her husband Gerry, who later advised Wandelt to seek help.
The court also learned that Wandelt followed up with a letter addressed to “dear mum,” expressing her desire to uncover the truth and her belief that Mrs. McCann was hesitant due to fear. Wandelt’s lawyer read the letter aloud, emphasizing Wandelt’s plea for contact and cooperation.
Furthermore, the court was informed of additional messages sent by Wandelt to Mrs. McCann, including a description of a pre-disappearance memory and a declaration of perseverance and truthfulness. Wandelt and Spragg are denying the allegations of stalking and causing distress to the McCanns between June 2022 and February 2025.
