“Soccer Fans’ Petition Calls for FIFA President’s Resignation”

Must read

A global coalition of soccer fan organizations initiated a petition on Thursday urging Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA president due to his attempt to offer future World Cup revenues to private investors. The petition, labeled InfantinOut, also demands a reconstruction of FIFA to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The petition condemned Infantino for his failed proposal to commercialize the World Cup, describing it as a disgraceful act that betrayed the essence of football. This proposal was swiftly retracted following widespread outrage.

Among the supporters of the petition are Football Supporters Europe, Football Supporters Africa, the Independent Supporters Council in North America, and approximately 40 national fan groups globally.

Despite mounting pressure, Infantino has refused to resign, despite UEFA’s lack of confidence in him. Criticism has also come from CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation leadership.

The fan petition accuses Infantino of leadership failure and undemocratic practices within FIFA. It highlights concerns about the concentration of power, lack of transparency, and absence of accountability within the organization, eroding trust in the governing body.

The petition emphasizes the need for Infantino to step down for the credibility of FIFA and the preservation of the sport. It also references Infantino’s controversial support for initiatives such as the European Super League and the proposal to host World Cups every two years.
