Anthony Joshua has returned to England following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals. The British heavyweight boxer arrived at London Stansted Airport on Friday night and was then transported to his residence for recovery, as reported by the Sun.
The funeral for Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, is scheduled to take place at a mosque in London. Close relatives and friends have been invited to a ‘janaza prayer service’ in memory of the departed friends.
There is uncertainty surrounding Joshua’s attendance at the funeral due to concerns that his presence may attract unwanted attention. The boxer narrowly escaped the fatal crash by switching seats just moments before the journey, which tragically resulted in the loss of two lives.
The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. According to his lawyer, the driver has pleaded not guilty, attributing the incident to brake failure. Kayode was discharged from the hospital and moved to Abeokuta, where he provided an official statement regarding the events leading up to the collision.
Joshua paid his respects to his deceased friends at a funeral home after being released from the hospital. He accompanied his mother to the funeral home to bid farewell to Ghami and Ayodele before their bodies were repatriated to the United Kingdom.
The driver’s trial has been adjourned to January 20, and Joshua has begun his recovery process in Nigeria after the unfortunate incident.
