Steve Cram, a BBC co-commentator, has urged Winter Olympic officials to address the Canada curling team regarding their use of inappropriate language following their 9-5 victory over Team GB. The Canadian team, led by Brad Jacobs, has been surrounded by controversy in Milan and Cortina, particularly after Canada’s Marc Kennedy engaged in a heated exchange with Swedish player Oskar Eriksson earlier in the competition.
Kennedy also faced allegations of improper stone touching during their win against Sweden, prompting World Curling to issue a statement clarifying the rules. Despite this, the BBC commentary team once again found themselves criticizing the Canadians’ language.
During a break in the match, the Canadians were caught swearing in proximity to TV cameras, eliciting disapproval from Cram and co-commentator Logan Gray. Cram expressed his frustration at the situation, emphasizing the need for intervention with the Canadian team.
At the time of the incident, Canada was leading 3-1 after the third end. The match’s pivotal moment saw Canada secure a point against Mouat’s Team GB, setting up a challenging path for the British team to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
Following a defeat against Norway in their last round-robin match, Team GB faced a crucial showdown against Canada, knowing that a win against both Canada and the USA would be necessary to advance to the semi-finals. Even with a victory over the Americans, Team GB’s fate hangs on other results to secure a spot in the final four.
