The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In response, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo. To accommodate Cameron on the roster, right-hander Lazaro Estrada was designated for assignment.
Additionally, left-hander Ricky Tiedemann was recalled from Buffalo, while right-hander Chase Lee was sent down to Triple-A. Guerrero sustained the concussion symptoms during a collision with New York Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. in Friday’s game, leading to his exit from the match.
During the incident, Lombard attempted to jump over Guerrero as he slid into third base, resulting in contact between Lombard’s knee and Guerrero’s head, causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off. Despite appearing dazed, Guerrero managed to score a run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the following inning.
Following the game, manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero experienced a headache, which persisted into Saturday. Guerrero, who holds a .263 batting average with seven home runs and 46 RBIs, has been a key player for the Blue Jays. Meanwhile, Tiedemann, who had a 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA in seven games across multiple minor league levels this season, was also part of the team’s recent roster adjustments.
