British Airways has announced a significant update regarding its in-flight Wi-Fi services. The airline will provide complimentary onboard Wi-Fi suitable for video streaming following a partnership between its parent company and Elon Musk’s Starlink.
Commencing from next year, British Airways will integrate this technology into its services as part of a comprehensive £7 billion transformation. International Airlines Group, the airline’s parent company, has inked a deal with Starlink to equip over 500 aircraft in its fleet with internet access.
Starlink, a satellite-based system owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, will offer seamless Wi-Fi access to British Airways passengers across all cabins without requiring a special login. This enhancement will replace the current limited Wi-Fi service available on most of the fleet, enabling travelers to enjoy various internet activities, including music and video streaming, for prices ranging from £4.99 to £21.99.
British Airways’ CEO, Sean Doyle, emphasized the airline’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience through the introduction of Starlink technology on both long-haul and short-haul flights. The new Wi-Fi powered by Starlink will provide fast and reliable connectivity throughout the journey, even over remote regions and oceans, setting British Airways apart from competitors.
In addition to this technological advancement, British Airways recently unveiled a new transatlantic route connecting London Heathrow to St Louis, Missouri. Scheduled to commence on April 19, 2026, the route will operate four times weekly during the summer months. Neil Chernoff, Chief Planning and Strategy Officer at British Airways, highlighted the significant opportunities this new service will offer customers, strengthening ties between the UK and the US Midwest.
With St Louis becoming British Airways’ 27th American city served, the airline aims to be the sole UK carrier providing direct flights to the destination. This strategic expansion underscores British Airways’ commitment to enhancing connectivity and customer satisfaction across its global network.
