Starting today, a wider range of individuals, including Blue Badge holders, will now be eligible for a Disabled Persons Railcard. This expansion encompasses both visible and non-visible disabilities.
The railcard provides a 33% discount on train fares, resulting in an average annual saving of £126. The cost is £20 for a one-year card or £54 for three years. Additionally, one accompanying person aged 16 or older can also benefit from the discount.
The existing eligibility criteria remain in place, ensuring continued qualification for the railcard. The recent extension of eligibility was initially announced in November 2025, with further expansion scheduled for September 2026.
The upcoming expansion will encompass long-term medical conditions and certain forms of neurodiversity that significantly affect a person’s ability to use train services. Detailed evidentiary requirements and application guidelines will be released prior to the September changes.
