FIFA has officially announced the departure of Kevin Lamour, who served as the Chief Operating Officer, following his public criticism of President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a stake in FIFA’s tournament business, including the World Cup. The working relationship between FIFA and Lamour ended on August 17, 2026. FIFA expressed gratitude for Lamour’s two years of service and wished him well in his future endeavors. The departure was confirmed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom in a letter to staff and Council members on Monday. Lamour had voiced his opposition to the proposal last month, stating that FIFA staff had been misled and describing the initiative as being driven by one individual’s agenda. Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to Infantino, also resigned in protest of the proposal, referring to it as detrimental to football. Lamour had joined FIFA in November 2024 and had previously been part of Infantino’s inner circle during his presidential campaign in 2016.
