During his visit to the international summit in South Africa, the Prime Minister is set to promote British enterprises ahead of the upcoming Budget session.

The forthcoming financial statement by Rachel Reeves is anticipated to feature significant measures aimed at alleviating the cost of living crisis and enhancing the financial well-being of working individuals.

Expressing his belief that collaboration with global partners fuels growth, Mr. Starmer highlighted the importance of international relationships. His itinerary in South Africa includes a visit to a train facility in Johannesburg to view trains manufactured in Derby.

An agreement will be unveiled between the UK and South Africa to leverage British expertise in reforming the South African rail system. Crossrail International, a UK Government-owned entity, will offer strategic guidance to attract private investments into South African railways.

Collaboratively, the UK and Vietnam will drive a digital transformation within Vietnam’s railway sector. British Steel is set to benefit by supplying additional products worth £35 million for Turkey’s high-speed rail network. Furthermore, Rolls Royce will provide new jet engines to Air Algerie.

Additionally, the UK secured an initial contract to aid the South African Navy in evaluating the operational readiness of their Type 209 submarines and conducting deep maintenance on at least one of the submarines. This contract marks Babcock, a British defense firm, securing its first defense contract in South Africa.

A new agreement between the UK and South Africa aims to streamline processes, potentially adding between £400 million and £700 million to UK businesses over the next five years.

Mr. Starmer emphasized, “Working with international partners to create jobs and opportunities domestically is a pathway to growth. The UK excels in engineering, with skilled workers contributing significantly to global projects.”

Downing Street reinforced the Prime Minister’s commitment to prioritizing domestic interests through strong international partnerships.
