A man, 45, has been apprehended in Liverpool after being discovered with a significant assortment of Dairy Milk bars, ranging from classic to caramel nut crunch, believed to be stolen. The individual was reported by a bystander for breaking into the staff room of McDonald’s on Blundell Street, Brunswick. Along with the theft of AirPods, officers also found the chocolate bars in his possession.
Merseyside Police took the man into custody on Thursday on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods. He has been interrogated at a local police station since then. Constable Wilton of the Liverpool city centre Neighbourhood Policing Team commended the swift police action that led to the suspect’s arrest.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking to identify businesses that may have recently experienced a large-scale chocolate theft. Following the news of the chocolate theft, members of the public took to social media to jest about the incident.
In a separate incident, a serial shoplifter named Richard Brown, 46, was sentenced after a spree targeting various high street chains, including Greggs, Co-op, JD Sport, and M&S. Brown admitted to 20 thefts, totaling over £1,500 in stolen alcohol and food from shops in Nottinghamshire during the summer months.
One of his thefts was captured on CCTV at an M&S Foodhall in West Bridgford, where he stole bottles of cognac and rum. Brown was eventually apprehended in a Specsavers store after being spotted by police. His shoplifting activities spanned several locations from May to August, resulting in a total stolen value of £1,535 from supermarkets and shops in the area.
Brown pleaded guilty to the theft charges and breaching a criminal behaviour order, receiving a 14-month prison sentence at Nottingham Crown Court. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a £187 surcharge. The court disclosed that Brown has committed 266 offenses over the past thirty years.
