Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot went missing after a flight last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced on social media that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes region.
The incident has been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, as stated by the JRCC in their social media update. The ownership of the plane, found on Wolf Lake, has not been definitively linked to the missing 73-year-old pilot known as David, according to the police.
David, identified by Durham police, departed from Oshawa Airport at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, with an expected return at 9:30 a.m. Authorities mentioned his usual flight path encompasses the area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog. The aircraft in question, described by the Ontario Provincial Police, is a small blue homemade plane with the tail marked “FOFZ.”
Described as an experienced pilot, David is five feet seven inches tall with a slim physique, sporting black grey hair and a moustache. For further details on the missing pilot incident, the Durham Regional Police have provided a picture of the plane involved.
