Morgan Geyser, known for the ‘Slender Man’ knife attack, was apprehended after escaping from her group home by cutting off her electronic monitoring device. She was found at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, following a 24-hour search that crossed state borders. Geyser and another individual were taken into custody after arriving in the area by bus, located about 25 minutes south of Chicago.
Authorities located Geyser after she was last seen in Madison with an adult companion. Surveillance footage showed her in a public building, leading to numerous tips and a heightened search effort. The pair was discovered at a truck stop in Posen without incident, prompting an investigation into how Geyser removed her Department of Corrections tag and left her residential facility.
Geyser’s disappearance was reported on Sunday morning, prompting a swift response from local and state law enforcement agencies. Her mother, Angie, made a plea for her safe return, emphasizing love and concern. Geyser had been under supervised care since March, following a court ruling that deemed her suitable for community placement after evaluations by psychologists.
In a notorious incident in 2014, Geyser and her childhood friend lured a classmate into the woods and stabbed her multiple times, inspired by the fictional character ‘Slender Man.’ The victim survived, sparking a global discussion on online influence and mental health in young individuals. Geyser and her friend were initially charged as adults but later found not guilty by reason of mental health conditions.
Efforts are underway to determine the route Geyser took and if additional charges will be filed related to her escape. It remains unclear if she will remain in Illinois custody or be extradited back to Wisconsin. The Leutner family, the victim from the 2014 attack, is cooperating with authorities and appreciates the support received during this challenging time.
As investigations continue, both states are working to ensure accountability and further developments in the case.
