A 28-year-old teacher, Teresa Whalin, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student and subsequently harassing him after their breakup. Allegations state that Whalin not only had sexual encounters with the student but also exchanged explicit photos with him. It is claimed that she went as far as creating fake phone numbers to contact him.
The teenager reportedly faced mental health challenges following the alleged affair, which began in April 2023. According to court documents, the student referred to their interactions as “dating,” involving sharing messages on Snapchat, dining out together, and spending time in the teacher’s classroom.
After the student terminated communication with Whalin, she allegedly began stalking him, struggling to cope with the breakup. Reports suggest that Whalin would drive to the student’s residence and appear along his school route in Denver, Colorado.
Upon disclosing the alleged incidents to a school counselor, the student’s revelation led to police involvement, resulting in Whalin’s arrest on the same day. During police questioning, Whalin purportedly confessed to the sexual relationship, sharing of explicit images, and the fabrication of fake phone numbers to reach out to the student anonymously, hoping he would seek her assistance.
Whalin is facing charges of sexual assault on a child in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child, and stalking. She is currently detained at the Douglas County Detention Center on a $50,000 (£37,907) bond.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Whalin has been an employee of the Douglas County School District since July 2021. Following her arrest, she has been placed on administrative leave, with the school district cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter, seeking further details and evidence.
