Teen Faces Critical Health Battle, Seeks Second Transplant

Must read

A teenager initially thought to have a stomach bug faced a critical medical emergency just one month later. Ashton Graham, 17, from New South Wales, Australia, experienced sudden symptoms after feeling the need to vomit before his high school graduation. Despite his family believing it was a common bug, urgent blood tests led to his immediate admission to the emergency department.

Following tests revealing elevated liver function, Ashton underwent treatment to support his liver, including an infusion of N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Despite efforts, he was diagnosed with idiopathic acute liver failure and urgently received a life-saving liver transplant in October. While the transplant initially improved his health, Ashton’s immunocompromised state led to various infections, leaving him bedridden and on a liquid diet.

Despite the challenges, Ashton’s family has launched a fundraiser to gather funds for another transplant, aiming to reach a target of AU$100,000. The donations will cover medical expenses and daily costs during Ashton’s ongoing treatment and recovery.
