The young rugby player, Sam Ballard, unknowingly consumed the slug contaminated with a dangerous parasite known as the rat lungworm disease. This parasite, typically found in rodents, can infect snails and slugs, posing severe health risks to humans.
Following the dare at a friend’s house in 2010, Sam initially experienced leg pains but did not display immediate illness symptoms. Concerned about the slug consumption, he sought reassurance from his mother who dismissed any potential harm. However, Sam later developed a brain infection, fell into a coma for nearly 420 days, and upon awakening, was left paralyzed from the neck down.
