The cost of a TV licence is increasing once again, with the fee set to go up to £180 starting in April from the current £174.50 per year. To legally watch or record live TV, or access any content on BBC iPlayer, a TV licence is required.
If you solely watch on-demand shows through platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, and do not use BBC iPlayer, then you do not need a TV licence. However, if you stream live programs via these services, a TV licence is necessary. Failure to comply with the TV licensing regulations could result in a fine of up to £1,000.
Individuals who no longer require their TV licence before it expires may be eligible for a refund if there is at least one month remaining on the licence. Additionally, those eligible for concessions such as over 75 or blind concessions can also apply for a refund.
