A child was swiftly taken to the hospital this week after a section of the school’s ceiling collapsed on him. The incident occurred at George Washington Elementary School in Hanford, California. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene where the roof had given way, injuring two children. Fortunately, both youngsters were discharged on the same day.
The 8-year-old boy, James Harrah, was waiting for pickup at the school when the ceiling stucco from the outdoor amphitheater suddenly fell on him. Recounting the terrifying experience, he mentioned being hit by the collapsing roof. His arm remains in a sling due to the injuries, accompanied by some bruising.
According to James’s mother, Diana Harrah, the incident happened as her son was passing by the amphitheater. She described hearing the pieces land on him after the initial impact. Diana expressed her fear and haste to reach the school upon hearing the news.
The Harrah family expressed their terror over the incident. James’s father, Shawn, rushed to the scene to comfort his son and inform his wife about the situation. As the children recuperate, Hanford Elementary School District officials decided to suspend in-person classes until at least December 1, transitioning to remote learning during this period.
The officials of the school district commended the quick response of the staff and emergency services. They announced plans to reopen the campus at the beginning of December, eagerly anticipating the return of students.
James is eager to reunite with his friends and shared his expectation that they might be amazed by his encounter with the collapsing roof.
