“TikTok influencer’s sentence reduced in fatal crash”

Must read

A former TikTok influencer involved in a fatal high-speed crash that resulted in the deaths of her mother’s partner and his friend has successfully appealed to have her prison sentence reduced. Mahek Bukhari, who was 22 at the time of the incident, was initially sentenced to a minimum of 31 years and eight months for the double murder in February 2022. However, following the appeal, her term has been shortened to 26 years and 285 days as the judges acknowledged her young age at the time of the crime.

Mahek, from Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent, collaborated with her mother, Ansreen Bukhari, in a plot to harm the victims after one of them threatened to expose a secret affair with Ansreen using explicit material. Ansreen was handed a 27-year prison sentence in 2023, which remains unchanged.

The appeal judges noted that the sentences for three other individuals involved in the crash were deemed excessive. Natasha Akhtar, Ameer Jamal, and Sanaf Gulamustafa, who were convicted of manslaughter in 2023, had their sentences reduced by two years each. The court emphasized that the severity of the incident should have been taken into account when determining the appropriate punishment.

During the trial, it was revealed that the fatal crash stemmed from a tumultuous love affair that turned deadly. The victims, Hashim and Saqib, were lured to a meeting with Mahek and her mother under false pretenses, leading to a violent confrontation on the road that resulted in their deaths.

Mahek and her mother were swiftly apprehended following the crash, with Mahek initially attempting to mislead the authorities by portraying Saqib as a dangerous individual. The court proceedings unveiled a complex web of deceit, obsession, and ultimately, a tragic outcome that claimed two lives.

The trial concluded after extensive deliberations, with the majority of the defendants found guilty of murder or manslaughter. Mahek, once a popular social media figure with a substantial following, now faces a lengthy prison term for her role in the harrowing events that unfolded on that fateful day.
