Must read

A man has passed away after an assault at a local pub, with his grieving family expressing their sorrow while law enforcement detains a suspect on murder charges.

Tony Powles, aged 62, was involved in the altercation at the Red Lion in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, on October 9 and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred at the pub on Batley Road, led to the arrest of Harry Mannion, 27, on suspicion of murder.

In a heartfelt tribute, Powles’ family described him as beloved by all who knew him. The statement, released by West Yorkshire Police, stated: “Tony was a cherished Partner, Dad, Grandad, Father-in-Law, Brother, Uncle, and friend. Known as ‘Dad’ by many, respected by most, and loved by all who crossed paths with him.

“Our hearts ache knowing you are no longer here to witness our achievements, share our memories, and cherish special moments. It is heartbreaking that you can no longer be with us when you had so much more to offer and experience. We weep for our loss while longing for just one more embrace, one more ‘see you tomorrow,’ or one more ‘I love you.’

“We hold you dear in our hearts, and you will be deeply missed. Your absence leaves an immense void in our lives, but we will not bid farewell; instead, we will say see you later – until we reunite. We request privacy during this challenging period.”

Mannion, a resident of Wakefield, initially faced charges of GBH before being re-apprehended on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody. The police statement mentioned, “A man who sustained severe injuries in an assault at a Wakefield pub has passed away. Tony Powles, 62, passed away in the hospital yesterday (22 October.) This follows an altercation at the Red Lion Pub on Batley Road on Thursday 9 October where Mr. Powles suffered critical injuries.”

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team stated: “Our thoughts are with Tony’s family during this challenging time, and they are receiving support from trained officers. We have initiated a murder inquiry and have re-arrested Mannion on suspicion of murder. Investigations are ongoing concerning this incident.”
