A passenger on a train in Huntingdon faced a terrifying ordeal when a man wielding a knife threatened him with death multiple times before being apprehended by police. Stephen Crean, a London resident, recounted the harrowing experience of confronting the knife-wielding assailant during a mass stabbing incident on Saturday. The chaotic situation unfolded shortly after Stephen boarded the train at Grantham on Saturday evening, following a Nottingham Forest vs. Manchester United football match. As the train journey progressed, panic spread among passengers as they witnessed a man brandishing a knife.
Stephen described how he found himself in a tense standoff with the attacker, who menacingly asked him three times if he wanted to die while waving the blade in his direction. The train, an LNER service traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, was forced to make an emergency stop at Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire after the violent incident. Eleven passengers sustained injuries during the knife attack, with four individuals being treated and discharged from the hospital, while two, including a courageous train worker, remain in critical condition.
The alleged perpetrator, 32-year-old Anthony Williams, appeared in Peterborough Magistrates’ Court facing charges of ten counts of attempted murder and one count of actual bodily harm related to the train incident. Additionally, Williams faces an attempted murder charge in connection with a separate incident on London’s DLR network earlier in November, as confirmed by the British Transport Police. During his court appearance, Williams, dressed in a grey tracksuit and handcuffed to officers, was denied bail due to the gravity of the charges. The judge scheduled his next court appearance at Cambridge Crown Court for December 1, 2025. Williams refrained from entering pleas and vaguely stated that he had “no fixed abode” when asked about his address.
