Horrified residents in a popular British holiday destination have shared disturbing videos of apparent sewage surfacing through the ground amid heavy rainfall.
Alarming visuals depict sewage rising, lifting a manhole cover, and spilling onto the street. The heavy rain caused the waste to liquefy, rapidly flooding the area with a murky brown hue. The incident, captured on a main road in Fuengirola, a favored spot for British tourists and expats on Spain’s Costa del Sol, was shared online on October 29.
“It smells terrible,” remarked a local passerby. A town hall representative mentioned, “We have deployed a specialized team with vehicles and personnel working throughout the city to assess and address the situation. Continuous monitoring is in place, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy.”
On social media, users humorously commented on the situation, with one individual joking, “When you lose the battle just as you’re reaching the bathroom.” Another video surfaced the same day, showing a sewage overflow in Torremolinos, another British holiday destination. A significant amount of sewage flooded the road, resembling a fountain with ankle-deep torrents flowing. The region of Andalusia, Spain, faced chaos due to a violent storm that brought heavy rain, tornadoes, and flash floods.
The provinces of Huelva and Seville were severely affected, with Huelva recording up to 160 liters of rain per square meter. This incident occurred a month following an explosion on a “tourist boat” in the Costa del Sol resort, where eight individuals were injured, three of them seriously. The cause of the explosion remains unclear.
A fisherman in the area described the boat as being made of polyester, a hazardous material when combined with fuel due to its rapid burning nature. The boat sank as a result of the fire, prompting an investigation in the area.
Fuengirola Town Hall issued a statement regarding the incident, reporting the quick response of rescue and emergency services to the boat fire following an explosion. Eight individuals were onboard, all sustaining injuries, with three in serious condition. The boat sank, and authorities are monitoring the situation for potential environmental impacts.
