Tragic Yacht Accident: Daughter Leaves £5M Inheritance to Grieving Mother

Must read

The late daughter of a prominent British tech entrepreneur, who tragically lost her life in a yacht accident, has left a substantial inheritance to her grieving mother. Mike Lynch, aged 59, and his daughter Hannah, 18, along with other passengers, perished when their yacht sank during a sudden storm off the coast of Sicily last year.

Angela Bacares, Mike Lynch’s wife, narrowly escaped the tragedy by being on deck when the yacht started to tilt. Angela recounted the last moments she shared with her husband before the disaster struck. Following the incident, it was revealed that Hannah left behind an estate valued at over £5 million, as she had no will.

Under inheritance laws, the funds from Hannah’s estate are expected to be inherited by her mother, Angela. This inheritance holds significant importance as Angela is currently facing legal challenges regarding her late husband’s estate. Legal actions against Angela include claims from the families of the victims of the yacht accident and a ruling by the UK High Court demanding payment to Hewlett-Packard, amounting to over £700 million, related to fraud allegations against Mike Lynch.

The legal battle stemmed from HP’s acquisition of Mike Lynch’s company Autonomy in 2011, with claims of fraudulent inflation of its value. The court ruling indicated that HP suffered financial losses due to misrepresented financial data during the acquisition. The estate of Hannah is being managed by Richard Gaunt, a businessman associated with Autonomy.

Hannah and her father tragically lost their lives aboard the sinking yacht, caught in an air pocket during the storm with strong winds. Following her untimely death, friends and classmates paid heartfelt tributes to Hannah, describing her as a kind, intelligent, and dedicated individual.

Mike Lynch’s own estate is estimated to be worth approximately £500 million, with details of his will yet to be disclosed. Despite being acquitted in a high-profile U.S. fraud trial linked to the Autonomy sale to HP, a subsequent civil fraud case in the UK ruled in favor of HP, ordering repayment of nearly £700 million from Lynch’s estate. The legal battles have raised concerns about Angela’s financial stability, especially after the tragic loss of her husband and daughter in the yacht accident.
