New distressing video footage has surfaced depicting what seems to be two lifeless orcas floating in a deteriorating tank. However, the reality behind this shocking scene is even more heartbreaking.
Earlier this year, in anticipation of a new law prohibiting orcas from performing in marine shows, the French marine park Marineland of Antibes shut its doors to visitors. Despite the park’s closure, the site is not entirely deserted.
Concern has been mounting for Wikie and Keijo, a mother and son pair left abandoned in desolate conditions at the park for almost a year. A recent drone video captured by photojournalist Seph Lawless has revealed the plight of these majestic creatures, leaving many viewers in tears.
Initial impressions suggested that both orcas were lifeless, with the mother orca seen floating motionless next to her son in murky waters within the abandoned park. However, to everyone’s surprise, the mother orca moved, showing signs of curiosity and relief upon being noticed. The video captured the orcas seemingly recalling their showmanship, performing for the camera in what appeared to be a yearning for freedom.
