Putin Showcases Russia’s Burevestnik ‘Flying Chernobyl’ Missile

Must read

Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed that he allowed a NATO spy ship to monitor Russia’s recent nuclear missile test intentionally to showcase the country’s possession of the most powerful long-range weapon globally. Putin also announced the development of even more formidable nuclear missiles, including the Burevestnik missile, nicknamed the ‘Flying Chernobyl,’ which he claims surpasses all existing missile systems worldwide. The Burevestnik missile reportedly flew 8,700 miles during a 15-hour test after a launch in the Arctic.

During a ceremony honoring scientists involved in the creation of the new nuclear missile systems, Putin stated that the Burevestnik boasts unparalleled range and target accuracy. He mentioned that a NATO reconnaissance ship was present during the test to verify the missile’s capabilities, emphasizing that Russia did not interfere with the surveillance.

Putin praised the Burevestnik missile for its ability to fly continuously for days before striking enemy targets. He also commended the Poseidon underwater drone, powered by its atomic reactor, capable of causing radioactive tidal waves in Western nations. Despite the potency of these weapons, Putin highlighted the ongoing development of a new generation of weapons, including nuclear-powered cruise missiles with enhanced speed and potential for hypersonic capabilities.

The Russian leader asserted that the advanced technology used in these weapons systems also contributes to space and Arctic exploration efforts. He mentioned potential civilian applications, such as using mini nuclear reactors for energy generation in remote areas and utilizing components from the Burevestnik and Poseidon for creating powerful computers and digital infrastructure.

Despite his focus on military advancements, Putin faced setbacks from Ukraine, with a strike on the headquarters of Russia’s elite Rubicon drone unit in Avdiyivka. The strike, attributed to Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, targeted officers and operators associated with combat UAVs. Ukraine also launched attacks on Russian power plants in Oryol and Vladimir regions.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, with both sides engaging in strategic strikes and counterattacks. Putin’s ambitions for developing advanced weaponry contrast with the ongoing military actions in the region, underscoring the tensions and complexities in the geopolitical landscape.
