At least 11 individuals lost their lives in a tragic fire at a retirement home in Bosnia’s Tuzla city. Witnesses described a horrifying scene as flames engulfed the upper floors of the building. The fire erupted on the seventh floor around 8:45 pm, causing over 30 injuries.

Nermin Niksic, the Prime Minister of Bosnia’s Muslim-Croat region, labeled the incident as a “disaster of enormous proportions.” Video footage captured flames bursting from the building’s windows. Authorities plan to begin identifying the victims and launch a fire investigation as soon as conditions permit.

One resident, Ruza Kajic, residing on the third floor, recounted being awakened by a loud cracking noise. She witnessed burning debris falling and quickly evacuated the building, mentioning bedridden individuals on the upper levels.

The retirement home issued a statement affirming that authorities are actively investigating the circumstances leading to the tragic event. Reports indicated that several patients suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning, with three in critical condition at the Tuzla University clinical center.
