“Sainsbury’s Integrates Chop Chop App Into Main App”

Must read

Sainsbury’s has decided to discontinue its Chop Chop rapid delivery app and incorporate its functionality into the main Sainsbury’s app instead.

Introduced in 2016, Chop Chop aimed to provide grocery deliveries within 60 minutes for a higher fee, and it was accessible in 50 Sainsbury’s stores.

Regular users may have observed that the standalone Chop Chop app has been phased out, and attempts to download it now redirect users to the primary Sainsbury’s app.

Jim Banks, Sainsbury’s head of experience design, explained that the move was intended to simplify the shopping process for customers, stating on LinkedIn, “Chop Chop is no more. Long live Chop Chop!”

The integration of Chop Chop into the main Sainsbury’s app was a significant effort involving various teams in Experience Design, product, and engineering. Banks commended the App Team and all involved for their hard work.

He emphasized, “This marks a substantial advancement in streamlining our ecosystem, enhancing the shopping experience to be more straightforward, relaxed, and customer-centric.”

Chop Chop had competed with Tesco’s Whoosh rapid delivery service, which promises food delivery in as little as 20 minutes.

In other news from the UK supermarket sector, Co-op revealed plans to open 18 new or revamped stores in the initial quarter of 2026.

The inaugural Co-op store for 2026 will be situated in the new Willowbrook Park neighborhood development in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

Additionally, certain stores will reopen after renovations, including the convenience store in Eastern Green, Coventry, and a franchise-operated site in Ealing, London.

Kate McCrae, Co-op Operations Director, emphasized the company’s focus on establishing community-centric stores that serve as local hubs meeting the diverse needs of the neighborhoods.

She added, “Our stores prioritize quality products and customer value, offering a wide range of promotions and deals on popular items.”

McCrae expressed her delight in inaugurating the first new store in Oxfordshire in 2026, underscoring Co-op’s commitment to expanding its presence across the UK.

Moreover, Co-op announced plans to introduce thousands of new apprenticeships over the coming years through a £70 million investment in its Levy Share service, aiming to create 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030.
