A young British woman, Bella Culley, who was imprisoned in Georgia on drug-related charges, has returned to the UK. Bella, 19 years old and pregnant, landed in the UK after being released from a Georgian prison where she had spent several months. Upon arrival, she was accompanied by her mother, who was seen with the same suitcase that had been seized by Georgian authorities containing £200,000 worth of cannabis in May.
After touching down in the UK, Bella and her mother were greeted by loved ones at the airport before being escorted away by armed police to avoid the media. Bella’s journey home took place on an EasyJet flight from Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, after almost half a year of incarceration.
Prior to their departure, Bella and her mother were observed rushing into the airport to check in for their flight just in time. An eyewitness noted that they were the last passengers to check in before the flight was scheduled to depart.
Bella, a trainee nurse from Billingham, Teesside, was unexpectedly released from prison earlier this week after potentially facing a lengthy sentence. Following a last-minute change to her plea bargain terms, she was seen boarding a flight from Georgia to London, where she arrived at 7pm.
Expressing her surprise at being released, Bella shared that she had not anticipated it at all. Her initial public comments upon leaving the court were about her appearance and the presence of cameras capturing the moment. She also had an emotional exchange with her father over the phone, expressing relief at no longer being in jail.
After an emotional courtroom scene, Bella’s mother expressed her happiness and anticipation of leaving the country with her daughter once the necessary travel documents were in order.
