“UPS Cargo Jet Crash in Kentucky Claims 12 Lives”

Must read

A tragic incident unfolded in Kentucky as a UPS cargo jet crashed, resulting in a fireball and claiming the lives of 12 individuals. The crash occurred when the aircraft’s engine detached during takeoff, according to investigators.

New details from the initial investigation emerged today following the crash that occurred after the plane departed from Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday evening. The death toll from the tragic event has now reached 12.

Officials reviewing airport security footage observed the left engine separating from the wing of the 34-year-old McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as it accelerated on the runway. The jet burst into flames and collided with nearby industrial structures.

During a briefing, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) official Todd Inman reported, “We have watched airport CCTV security footage showing the left engine detaching from the wing during takeoff.” He added, “A significant fire erupted in the vicinity of the left wing during the takeoff.”

Mr. Inman described the extensive debris field scattered over approximately half a mile, making the search for survivors challenging. Despite ongoing efforts to comb through the burnt area near the crash site, chances of finding survivors are slim.

The ill-fated plane, en route to Honolulu, briefly ascended before crashing beyond the airport perimeter, hitting Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and Grade A Autoparts. The impact caused a massive fireball illuminating the night sky and igniting a half-mile-long blaze in the industrial zone.

In response to the tragic event, Governor Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency to expedite aid to the scene. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed that the death toll had climbed to 12, including three UPS crew members, multiple ground workers, and a child. Mayor Greenberg expressed deep sorrow over the situation, stating, “I’m deeply saddened to share that the death toll has risen to 12, with several individuals still unaccounted for.” Additionally, 11 people sustained injuries.
