M&S Reveals 500 Potential Store Locations

Must read

British retail giant M&S has disclosed a list of 500 potential locations for future store openings. Last year, the company announced plans to launch or renovate 20 M&S stores, leading to the creation of 800 new jobs. The upcoming sites in Northwich, Abingdon, and Stonehaven are confirmed, while stores in Farnham, Northampton, and Godalming are expected to open in the coming years.

M&S has already expanded into new areas like Cannock and Bath and aims to further grow its presence in locations without existing stores, such as Hove, Marlborough, and Wallingford. The company is seeking sites across the UK capable of accommodating trading spaces of 18,000sqft (25,000sqft gross).

Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, expressed optimism about the company’s performance and plans for expansion. Following a successful holiday season with a record number of shoppers, M&S saw a 5.6% increase in food sales but a 2.9% decline in fashion, home, and beauty sales. The company attributed the decrease in store spending to reduced foot traffic in high streets and disruptions caused by a recent cyber attack.

Despite challenges, M&S remains proactive in reshaping its business strategy to drive growth and reduce costs in response to the evolving consumer landscape. The retailer is focused on store transformation and cost optimization to navigate uncertainties and improve its market position.
