A 21-year-old mother is facing allegations of killing her two infants within a span of three years and displaying a nonchalant attitude when authorities arrived at her residence.
Dakota Taylor, aged 21, was apprehended on November 20 after an inquiry into the demise of her eight-month-old son, Caleb, in Jefferson County, Georgia, in January 2025. The infant was discovered unresponsive at a Matthews residence and later succumbed to his condition at a nearby hospital.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) disclosed that at the time of her recent arrest, Taylor was already detained at McDuffie County Jail in connection with the passing of her other child, Micah, aged seven months, in September 2021.
According to details from a grand jury arrest warrant referenced by 14 News, Taylor was charged with causing Micah’s demise by deliberately obstructing his airways. The initial ruling on the cause of the baby’s death had been inconclusive.
It has emerged that Taylor and Micah were residing in a group home when the tragic incident occurred. Detectives highlighted Taylor’s peculiar behavior during the emergency medical procedures for her baby and en route to the hospital, as reported by WRDW.
Footage from police body cameras captured an officer noting Taylor’s indifferent response when informed about her baby’s condition. Another officer described Taylor’s demeanor as uncaring when they were transporting the infant.
The case remained unresolved for a considerable duration, with Taylor under the supervision of the Georgia Department of Child and Family Services. Allegations suggest that Taylor caused Caleb’s death on January 8 by depriving him of oxygen, inflicting excessive physical and mental anguish on the infant.
The arrest affidavit states that Taylor intentionally caused Caleb’s demise with premeditated malice. As per WRDW, a family member recounted that Taylor dropped off Caleb at their residence on the day of the incident, concealing the baby’s face with a blanket initially.
Upon removing the blanket inside the house, the family member discovered Caleb with blue lips. The child was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away thereafter.
Following an investigation into both infant deaths, Taylor was arrested and charged with two counts each of malice murder, felony murder, and cruelty to children. She is scheduled to appear in court on February 11.
The GBI issued a statement confirming Taylor’s arrest and charges for malice murder, felony murder, and cruelty to children. The agency was requested to assist in the investigation into the eight-month-old child’s demise in Matthews, Georgia.
Taylor was taken into custody on November 20 while being detained on separate charges from DeKalb County, Georgia, related to another child death inquiry at McDuffie County Jail.
