The addition of Fairground AI Creator TV, offering 24/7 fully AI-generated content for free, was not officially announced by Roku. Cord Cutters News was the first to report on this new channel being part of Roku’s lineup.
However, the reception from viewers seems mixed, with some expressing dissatisfaction with what they perceive as a constant stream of low-quality AI content. Critics like Frank Landymore of Futurism and Bradly Shankar of MobileSyrup have voiced their concerns about the channel.
Fairground AI operates as a FAST channel, providing free, ad-supported streaming television. While there are approximately 200 FAST channels available on the Roku Channel in Canada, Fairground AI is not currently among them. The company has not disclosed any plans to introduce the channel in Canada.
Roku, a leading streaming platform globally, was acquired by Fox in a significant $22 billion deal in June. The launch of the AI channel coincides with the rising trend of AI-generated content across various entertainment sectors.
Fairground AI’s CEO, Colin Petrie-Norris, anticipates a similar evolution to YouTube’s success for the AI creators featured on the platform. He believes that initial skepticism will eventually give way to broader acceptance and appreciation for AI-generated content.
The decision by Roku to embrace AI content aligns with industry trends aiming to enhance user engagement while managing costs. Despite potential concerns about the quality of AI content, this move reflects a shift towards more diverse programming options.
