“Calgary Stampede 50/50 Winner Misses Claim Deadline Drama”

Must read

Calgarian Curtis Geiger had an eventful week filled with highs and lows. After discovering that the 50/50 ticket he bought on July 11 at the Calgary Stampede rodeo was a winning ticket worth $125,150, he was thrilled and shocked. Geiger immediately reached out to the Calgary Stampede to claim his prize, only to receive disappointing news hours later. The Stampede informed him that the 48-hour window to claim the prize had expired, and all prizes had been either claimed or forfeited.

Geiger expressed his frustration and disbelief at missing the claim deadline, stating that he felt let down by the organization. The Calgary Stampede clarified that the 50/50 draw is governed by a lottery license issued by Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC), and they are obligated to adhere to the rules set forth. According to the Stampede, Geiger contacted them after the 48-hour claim period had lapsed, making him ineligible for the prize.

While the Stampede maintains that the rules and FAQs clearly outline the 48-hour claim period, Geiger argues that the ticket did not specify this timeframe. He also questions the fairness of such a short window for claiming the prize. Geiger wonders how the unclaimed prize money is utilized and plans to explore his legal options regarding the situation.

Legal expert Farhad Shekib suggests that Geiger may have a case for breach of contract based on the clarity and fairness of the claim window communication. Geiger intends to pursue legal recourse and hopes to raise awareness to prevent others from facing a similar situation in the future.
