A woman feared for her life when her abusive partner attacked her on a cruise, leaving her with injuries. David Morris, 57, was described by a judge as a habitual abuser of women. The assault occurred in their cabin during a P&O cruise to Belgium and France.
The victim suffered bruising, a friction burn on her arm, and a possible rib cage fracture after Morris verbally and physically assaulted her. He poured cold water on her, threatened her with boiling water, and held a pillow over her head, causing her to fear for her life.
Following the incident, Morris received a 46-month jail sentence for the attack. The prosecutor stated that the assault happened after the victim returned to their cabin from the ship’s hairdresser. The victim managed to persuade Morris to leave the cabin briefly, allowing her to seek help from the ship’s staff.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, including bruising, a burn on her arm, and a suspected rib fracture. She described the attack as the most terrifying experience of her life, feeling trapped and helpless. The trauma has resulted in ongoing mental health issues for her.
Morris pleaded guilty to suffocation and had a history of violence, including a previous threat to kill in 2008. Despite his mitigation, the judge emphasized Morris’s dangerous behavior and imposed a restraining order against him.
The victim’s brave actions in reporting the abuse highlight the importance of speaking out against domestic violence and seeking help.
