Anna Huang Makes History at CPKC Women’s Open

Must read

Last year’s CPKC Women’s Open marked a significant turning point in Anna Huang’s golf career. At the age of 16, she failed to make the cut in Mississauga, Ontario, leading her to reflect on her struggles at the time. However, with the guidance of her caddie and coach Sean Burke, who dedicated the weekend to refining her putting skills and alignment, Huang’s game saw a remarkable transformation.

The intensive practice sessions in Mississauga proved pivotal as within a month, Huang clinched back-to-back victories on the Ladies European Tour. Her subsequent win in the PIF London Championship on August 9 made history when, at just 17 years, 9 months, and 10 days old, she became the youngest player to secure four LET titles, surpassing Lydia Ko’s previous record.

Huang’s triumph over world No. 6 Charley Hull at the PIF London Championship further solidified her status in the women’s golf realm. Now, as she prepares to return to the CPKC Women’s Open this year, Huang exudes a newfound confidence in her game, contrasting her rookie status from the previous season. With a year of experience under her belt, having participated in six majors and numerous LPGA events, Huang feels better equipped to tackle the competition.

The upcoming $2.75 million CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton will witness Huang alongside other rising Canadian talents like Aphrodite Deng and Clairey Lin, who have all received sponsor exemptions. Deng, a standout performer committed to Stanford University, has already made significant strides in her golf career, boasting wins and notable finishes in prestigious tournaments.

The emergence of these young Canadian golfers has garnered attention and praise, with Golf Canada’s NextGen coach Jeff MacDonald acknowledging their unprecedented achievements. With defending champion Brooke Henderson and other established LPGA Tour players set to compete in Edmonton, the stage is set for a thrilling tournament showcasing both seasoned professionals and promising newcomers in the world of women’s golf.
