The closure of a well-known hotel and restaurant, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet, has left its loyal customers heartbroken. Situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire, the 65-room hotel by the canal on St Michael’s Road has officially ceased operations. All employees have been let go as a result.
A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its 46-year run. The expansive 14-acre site encompassed various facilities such as a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking lots.
In a statement reported by the Lancashire Post, the management expressed their gratitude to patrons, staff, and suppliers for their longstanding support. They acknowledged the sentimental value of Guy’s Thatched Hamlet to many individuals and emphasized the need to conclude this chapter as the establishment transitions.
Devastated customers have taken to social media to share their memories and sadness over the closure. Expressing sentiments like where proposals were made and special moments shared, customers mourn the loss of the beloved venue.
Operated by the Wilkinson family since 1980, the business was put up for sale last year without a specified guide price, citing a net turnover of approximately £4.2 million. The hotel’s strategic location near popular tourist destinations like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland attracted a mix of leisure and commercial clientele.
Renowned for its unique offerings, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet was a year-round destination known throughout the North West of England. With a bustling food and beverage sector, the establishment had a strong trading base, especially during peak seasons.
