“Buzzing Beds: Bee Therapy Soothes Stress in Ontario”

Must read

A farm in southwestern Ontario is home to half a million bees that provide visitors with a unique way to unwind and alleviate stress. Diana Graham operates Bees and Bloom Wellness on her 28-hectare farm in the Comber area, where she offers bee bed therapy. Inside a small hut on the farm, four beehives are positioned beneath two wooden beds, separated by screens from clients who lie on top to experience the therapy.

Advocates of this therapy, including Graham, claim that it can effectively reduce anxiety and stress levels, although there is limited scientific backing for its benefits. Graham attests to the therapeutic nature of sleeping surrounded by bees, with visitors reporting feelings of amazement and improved breathing due to the presence of bee pheromones. The setup is designed to ensure the safety of clients from bee stings.

Graham explained that bee pheromones have positive effects on the immune system, lungs, and mental well-being. The buzzing sound of the bees is said to aid in alleviating anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep disorders, and overall health. The atmosphere inside the cabin is filled with the soothing scents of honey and beeswax, enhancing the therapeutic experience. Similar bee bed therapy centers exist across Canada.

Visitors Praise Relaxing Effects of Bee Farm

Christine Brady from Petrolia, southeast of Sarnia, shared her positive experience after visiting Graham’s farm for bee bed therapy with her mother. She highly recommends the therapy and appreciates having such a facility in Ontario. Prior to finding Graham’s farm, Brady had only come across a similar facility in Italy. She emphasized the calming effects of the bee vibrations, scents, and frequencies during the therapy session.

Another visitor, Annette Bourassa from Barrie, Ontario, expressed her awe after her recent visit to the farm and plans to return with friends. She highlighted the incredibly relaxing and therapeutic experience of listening to the bees’ hum, which left her feeling soothed and stress-free.

Bourassa found the experience non-claustrophobic and emphasized the safety measures in place, such as providing protective jackets for visitors. The cost of a 60-minute bee bed therapy session on Graham’s farm ranges from $85 for one person to $300 for a group of four to six individuals.

Origins of Bee Bed Therapy

Graham, fondly referred to as “the queen bee,” oversees the hives on her farm and sought guidance from Paul O’Neill in Ireland to establish the bee beds. O’Neill, along with Anton Tovarnitskyi, pioneered commercial bee bed houses on Valentia Island in Ireland, inspired by similar practices in Ukraine.
