The famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro will be illuminated in green to honor Prince William’s Earthshot Awards. The Prince of Wales has arrived in Brazil for a three-day event celebrating the nominees and winners of his environmental initiative, marking its first appearance in Latin America.
The Earthshot Prize will conclude with an awards ceremony at Rio’s Museum of Tomorrow, where five recipients will each be granted £1 million to advance their initiatives for the planet. Amidst recent challenges faced by the royal family, particularly the controversy surrounding former Prince Andrew, Prince William aims to redirect attention to his activities in Brazil, culminating in a visit to the COP climate summit in Belem.
The Earthshot initiative, conceptualized by William in 2020, aims to expedite environmental innovation to address issues like climate change, plastic pollution, and wildlife habitat loss by 2030. The 2025 Finalists, chosen from a pool of nearly 2,500 nominees from 72 countries, represent outstanding climate leadership.
Prince William expressed his anticipation for his visit to Brazil, highlighting the nation’s rich culture, diverse wildlife, and warm populace. This week’s focus on Brazil provides an ideal backdrop for acknowledging and drawing inspiration from bold climate leaders. The Earthshot Prize has garnered a significant global following, showcasing existing solutions to pressing challenges.
Additionally, the Prince and Princess of Wales have relocated to Forest Lodge, their permanent residence, leaving behind Adelaide Cottage in Windsor’s Home Park for the Grade II-listed mansion in Windsor Great Park. The move coincided with the children’s half term break and symbolizes a fresh start for the family, especially following Kate’s recovery from illness.
While the move situates the Wales family in closer proximity to Prince Andrew at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, it signifies a new chapter as William embarks on his journey to Rio for the Earthshot Prize Awards.
