Conor Benn has accused his rival Chris Eubank Jr of adopting a ‘victim mentality’ following the circulation of a concerning video showing Eubank Jr receiving treatment in a hospital. The footage depicted Eubank Jr, aged 36, lying immobile on a hospital bed, connected to medical equipment and surrounded by healthcare personnel.
The video elicited a wave of sympathy from fans, with some suggesting that Eubank Jr should consider retiring, especially after his defeat to Benn in their rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last November. In response, Benn urged fans to question Eubank Jr’s motives for sharing the video, insinuating that it was a ploy to garner sympathy.
During an interview with the Mail, Benn revealed that Eubank Jr had reportedly suffered from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in the latter stages of his training camp and post-fight, or possibly had a stomach cyst. Benn downplayed the severity of Eubank Jr’s condition, emphasizing the need to scrutinize the reasons behind the video’s release, suggesting a recurring theme of seeking sympathy and adopting a victim mentality.
Benn drew attention to his own undisclosed struggles, stating, “You don’t see images of me struggling to make weight for my fight in Vegas, facing challenges like tearing a tendon in my final sparring session.” He emphasized the inherent challenges in the sport, likening boxers to modern-day gladiators and asserting his stoic approach without seeking public sympathy.
Eubank Jr, in his social media post accompanying the video, affirmed his intention to continue boxing, acknowledging past health issues that had accumulated over the previous year. He expressed determination to return to peak condition and stage a comeback for his loyal fans.
