John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Expressing his enthusiasm, Tory stated that he is eager to collaborate with the board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to contribute to the organization’s future.

Tory’s tenure officially commences on October 1, as indicated in the latest news release published on Thursday. The current edition of the festival is scheduled to run from September 10 to 20.

He is taking over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021.
