Golden Boot winner and Player of the Year in the Northern Super League, Delaney Baie (DB) Pridham, has prolonged her contract with Rapid FC until the 2028 season. Scoring 28 goals in the league’s first two seasons and a regular in the Canada national women’s team, Pridham is set to compete for a spot in the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Hailing from Saratoga, Calif., she has previously played in Iceland and Sweden but values her time in Ottawa.
Expressing her excitement about the club’s future, Pridham highlighted the strong support from the new owners and the growing fan base. Rapid FC’s CEO, Thomas Gilbert, expressed confidence in Pridham’s commitment to the team, noting ongoing discussions leading to the contract extension.
The terms of the deal remain undisclosed. Additionally, Ottawa has announced Carmelina Moscato as the head coach for the upcoming season, replacing Katrine Pederson. Moscato’s coaching experience in various countries underscores the league’s ability to attract top-tier talent.
While player movement is common in the league, both Gilbert and NSL president Christina Litz emphasize the proactive measures taken to retain talent. Pridham’s decision to stay was influenced by discussions with Moscato, reinforcing her dedication to Ottawa FC.
The NSL provides opportunities for players to gain crucial experience and playing time, particularly for those aspiring to represent the national team. Recent acquisitions like Sabrina D’Angelo and Shelina Zadorsky at AFC Toronto, along with other international players, showcase the league’s global appeal.
With ambitions to become a top-five league globally, the NSL focuses on attracting and retaining top talent. The advantage of playing in Canada, close to family and friends, serves as a significant draw for players, reflecting their personal commitment to the league’s growth and success.
