The individual accused in connection with the tragic car crash involving Anthony Joshua has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident, which resulted in the deaths of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, occurred near Lagos on December 29. Joshua survived the crash but sustained injuries.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, appeared in Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state near Lagos, where his case was adjourned to March 13. He faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving and reckless and negligent driving. Kayode, who has not yet entered a plea, was granted bail of approximately £2,600. Additionally, he is accused of driving without due care and driving without a valid driver’s license, potentially leading to a life sentence. Prosecutors requested more time to gather evidence.
Joshua narrowly escaped death in the collision and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve. He returned to the UK in early January for rehabilitation. Speaking about his recovery journey, Joshua expressed gratitude for the immense support he has received, acknowledging the loss of his two friends in the crash.
The heavyweight boxer emphasized the close bond he shared with Ayodele and Ghami, noting their significant presence in his life both personally and professionally. Joshua vowed to honor their legacy and dreams, stating that plans are in place to ensure their memory lives on.
