Luke Littler is poised to recoup part of his £1 million prize for winning the PDC World Darts Championship. The 18-year-old recently secured back-to-back world titles by defeating Gian van Veen at Alexandra Palace. Littler’s remarkable 7-1 victory over the Dutchman marked his third consecutive appearance in the final. Notably, he is the first player to claim the £1 million prize on offer with this win.
Despite the substantial prize money increase from last year, Littler is subject to UK tax laws, which will result in a significant tax deduction of nearly half his winnings. This taxation, at a rate of 45%, could amount to up to £450,000. Additionally, National Insurance contributions will further reduce Littler’s earnings, leaving him with an estimated tax bill of around £470,000 following his recent world championship triumph.
Looking ahead, Littler is gearing up to compete in the upcoming Bahrain Darts Masters scheduled to commence on January 15. Having previously clinched the title in 2024 after defeating Michael van Gerwen, Littler is set to participate in the tournament as a 10-time PDC major title holder.
Expressing his plans for the near future in an interview with talkSPORT, Littler outlined his intention to defend his Bahrain title and potentially secure victory at the forthcoming Saudi Arabia Darts Masters, starting on January 19. Following the tournament in Saudi Arabia, Littler plans to unwind with a brief trip to Dubai alongside his family.
As Littler continues his darts dominance, eyes are on him to possibly match or surpass Phil Taylor’s record of 16 world titles. The young champion’s ambition to “dominate” the sport was evident in his post-victory statements, where he emphasized his determination to succeed on the darts stage.
