Marie-Yasmine Alidou secured a crucial goal from a penalty kick in the 55th minute, leading the Montreal Roses to a 2-0 victory over AFC Toronto in Northern Super League action over the weekend. Elyse Bennett further solidified the Roses’ win with her ninth goal of the season, as they played their first match under interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel.
Although Shelina Zadorsky seemed to equalize for Toronto in the 68th minute, her goal was disallowed due to an offside infringement. Roses’ goalkeeper Anna Karpenko made an outstanding performance, facing 20 shots, nine of which were on target, to secure a clean sheet.
On the opposing side, Toronto’s goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo encountered seven shots, five of which were on target. The Roses took the field following the dismissal of head coach Robert Rositoiu after a surprising 1-0 defeat against semi-pro team Simcoe County in the W Canadian Championship.
