Rachel Reeves Mocks Farage in Commons Amid Russian Scandal

Must read

Nigel Farage faced sharp criticism from Rachel Reeves regarding potential ties to pro-Russian elements within Reform UK. During her Budget speech in the Commons, Reeves humorously clarified that her sanctions against Russia did not include Farage, the MP for Clacton.

The scrutiny on Farage intensified after former Reform UK Welsh leader Nathan Gill was convicted of accepting Russian bribes, leading to calls for an investigation into potential pro-Putin influences in the party. Keir Starmer also condemned Farage for the scandal, urging him to probe his party’s connections with Russia.

Gill confessed to accepting bribes from Oleg Voloshyn, identified as a figure linked to Russian security services by the US government. A Metropolitan Police investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the scandal.

Farage defended his position, stating he lacked the authority to conduct an inquiry due to limitations in accessing information like phone records. He expressed embarrassment for Ukip and downplayed the significance for Reform, suggesting that MI5 could delve into the matter if necessary.
