Trump Declares “MOST DEVASTATING ECONOMIC OPERATION”

Must read

U.S. President Donald Trump declared on social media Wednesday his intention to initiate what he described as “the MOST DEVASTATING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER DIRECTED AT ANY NATION!” “This will constitute Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unparalleled level,” he posted on Truth Social, providing scant specifics. He also cautioned of economic repercussions for any nation backing Tehran or extending “any form of support to Iran.” “ANY nation that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to offer any form of assistance to Iran will itself confront SIGNIFICANT Economic Ramifications,” Trump stated in a social media post. He refrained from detailing the specific measures Washington would undertake against such a nation and refrained from naming any country, asserting, “Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies — It all needs to cease IMMEDIATELY. You know who you are.”

Thousands of casualties have been reported in the ongoing six-month conflict, which swiftly embroiled nations across the Gulf. Simultaneously, global markets were rattled as Iran demonstrated its capacity to govern shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route through which approximately a fifth of the world’s traded oil traversed before February. The U.S. and Iran have twice declared truce agreements, in April and June, aimed at reinstating the free flow of shipping through Hormuz to pre-war levels in a bid to resolve the conflict. Both agreements swiftly crumbled, even as Israel significantly scaled back its involvement in the conflict initiated alongside the U.S. in February. Trump’s social media warnings and declarations do not consistently materialize or lead to concrete actions as stated.

Conflicting reports emerged regarding U.S.-Iran discussions. The United Arab Emirates, home to a significant U.S. military base, announced on Tuesday the suspension of all trade activities, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran until further notice. This announcement followed the UAE defense ministry’s claim of detecting two missiles launched from Iran that landed in the sea, a report Iran dismissed as unfounded. China reportedly purchases over 80 percent of Iran’s shipped oil, according to 2025 data from analytics firm Kpler. However, escalating economic hostilities with China, a key U.S. exporter including of critical rare-earth minerals, poses potential retaliatory risks.

On Tuesday, Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, expressed Iran’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the U.S. while emphasizing that negotiations should not be mistaken for surrender. As per the semi-official Fars news agency, Mokhber asserted that military pressure and sanctions would not weaken Iran’s determination. Trump stated on Tuesday that no discussions were ongoing with Iran. A day earlier, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and special envoy, conveyed optimism by stating that talks with Iran were still in progress and were “possibly more intense” than ever.
