A European airport has halted its operations following unidentified drone activity in close proximity, marking the third such occurrence within a span of just two days.
According to a spokesperson for Vilnius Airport in Lithuania, the decision to restrict airspace was taken after a drone was spotted within the airport’s vicinity.
Yesterday, two major international airports in Belgium were also compelled to cease operations due to drone sightings. Brussels Airport announced that no flights were departing or arriving due to drones flying around the airport.
An update later mentioned that the disruption had caused delays, flight cancellations, and could continue to affect flight operations into Wednesday morning.
As a precautionary measure, air traffic at Brussels’ second-largest airport, Charleroi, was briefly stopped. Initially, flights were redirected to Liege airport, but it was subsequently closed due to suspected drone sightings.
