“Gordie Howe Bridge Draws Thousands Across Border”

Statistics Canada reported that tens of thousands of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge that links Windsor and Detroit commenced traffic on July 27, following several weeks of delays. According to StatCan, preliminary data indicates that 18,900 Canadian residents returned from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge within the first five days of its operation. Simultaneously, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the same bridge during the same timeframe.

In comparison, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, the other major border crossings in the area, witnessed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents in the same period. Moreover, Statistics Canada noted that 4,100 commercial trucks traveled to Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
