McDonald’s Loyalty Program Points to Increase

Must read

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration following the announcement of a significant modification to the company’s loyalty program. Soon, Maccies will be raising the required points for obtaining free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards.

Presently, customers need 5,500 points to redeem items like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, starting March 17, the redemption threshold will increase to 6,500 points, with customers earning 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Currently, 1,500 points are necessary for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries, but this will increase to 2,000 points. Moreover, the points needed for items like a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie will rise from 2,500 points to 3,500, and for a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, the requirement will increase to 5,000 points from 4,000 points.

In response to the changes, one upset fan on social media said, “Not at all happy,” while another inquired, “When does this start? I need to cash in and move on.” A McDonald’s spokesperson explained that the adjustments to the loyalty scheme are due to the escalating food and supply costs.

The spokesperson further stated, “While we have increased the points required across all tiers to reflect rising food and supply costs, we’ve also introduced a number of fan favorites now available for redemption for the first time, including our popular Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and delicious new Sausage Sandwich, providing even more choice for our customers.”

These modifications follow the launch of McDonald’s new menu, featuring items like the Surf N’ Turf burger and the Chicken Cheeseburger. Additionally, new offerings include the Espresso Milkshake and Chilli Cheese Bites, providing customers with a range of exciting options.
