Following a string of disappointing runs, including a fall at the 2025 Champion Hurdle where he was the favorite, Henderson took Constitution Hill to Southwell for a Flat race over 1m4f on the all-weather track. In a remarkable performance witnessed by a record crowd of over 3,000 during ITV’s Friday Night Live broadcast, Constitution Hill secured a convincing victory by nine and a half lengths, showcasing his potential as a skilled Flat racer.
Despite the positive outcome at Southwell, Henderson expressed concerns about risking Constitution Hill at Cheltenham, acknowledging the significant public interest and potential consequences of any mishap. After careful consideration and discussions with owner Michael Buckley, Henderson revealed that the decision to withdraw Constitution Hill from the Unibet Champion Hurdle was made due to the horse’s shifting odds and the desire to focus on his Flat racing career.
